Vancouver children, in an Oxbridge tutorial

A Vancouver child can write a competent essay and still never have had to defend a position out loud. The Oxbridge tutorial exists for exactly that: three to seven students, one motion, and nowhere to hide. We teach it live, in the Pacific afternoon.

Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me — this is no exaggeration: you’re like an angel sent from above who rescued me from a sea of frustration and confusion.

A Canadian teacher, and Pacific hours

Nina is Canadian, a native English speaker with more than six years teaching children and teenagers, and soon taking the Cambridge Certificate in Cognitive Psychology. Our Hong Kong morning class lands at four to five in the afternoon in Vancouver, after school. Places in these Pacific-time groups are limited.

02

Oxford and Cambridge in the room

Kat is an Oxford DPhil candidate in Education, published first author on how children acquire language, and a qualified teacher twice over. Caroline holds an Oxford Master’s in English as a Clarendon Scholar. William lectures in English in Europe with an Oxford MSc in Applied Linguistics.

03

Writing that travels

Eight of our secondary entrants reached the John Locke Institute Global Essay Prize shortlist, roughly double the rate across more than a hundred thousand entries. Our students go on to Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, LSE, Imperial and Columbia.

Questions from Vancouver parents

When do classes run for Vancouver students?

Our Hong Kong morning class falls at four to five in the afternoon Pacific time, so for your child it is a weekday afternoon after school. Places in these Pacific-time groups are limited, and the exact group is set after the interview.

Is there actually a Canadian teacher?

Yes. Nina is Canadian and teaches on our team, alongside colleagues in Oxford and London. A Vancouver child is taught by people across the English-speaking world rather than by one tutor in one city.

My child is strong in English but will not speak up. Is this for them?

That is who this is built for. With three to seven students and discussion at the centre of every lesson, there is nowhere to hide and no pressure to perform. Quieter children often become the first to speak.
